LaLiga Update: Barca Nears Real Madrid, Sevilla Beats Getafe

FC Barcelona secured a 1-0 win over Las Palmas, closing the gap on LaLiga leader Real Madrid to five points. The game saw Las Palmas goalkeeper Alvaro Valles being sent off, while Raphinha scored the only goal of the match in the 59th minute.

Raphinha’s looping header came after a smart cross from Joao Felix, as Barcelona dominated despite Las Palmas threatening on the break. Second-half yellow cards for Barca players means they will miss their next game but avoid suspension for the ‘Clasico’ against Real Madrid on April 21.

Sevilla also claimed a 1-0 victory against Getafe, with Sergio Ramos scoring the winning goal on his 38th birthday. However, the match was marred by racist insults directed at Sevilla coach Quique Sanchez Flores and defender Marcos Acuna from a section of the home fans.

Bottom-placed Almeria suffered a 3-0 defeat against Osasuna, despite the latter’s coach announcing his departure at the end of the season. Mallorca played out a goalless draw against Valencia but faced a setback with Omar Mascarell’s muscle injury potentially sidelining him for the Copa del Rey final.

In other LaLiga action, Cadiz defeated Granada 1-0 to boost their survival hopes, while Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are set to play their respective matches on Sunday and Monday.
