Leverkusen shocks Qarabag with thrilling five-goal match to advance to UEFA Europa League quarterfinals

Bayer Leverkusen staged a remarkable comeback to defeat ten-men Qarabag 3-2 in injury-time, advancing to the round of the last eight. Leverkusen’s Patrik Schick scored twice to secure the win and extend their unbeaten run to 37 competitive fixtures this season.

The match saw Leverkusen creating early chances, but Qarabag’s Andrey Lunev denied their efforts. Despite dominating possession, Leverkusen conceded the first goal in the 58th minute. Qarabag’s Elvin Jafarguliyev received a red card, and Juninho extended their lead in the 67th minute.

However, Leverkusen quickly responded with Jeremie Frimpong reducing the deficit. Schick’s last-minute heroics turned the game in Leverkusen’s favor, securing the win with a decisive header. Coach Xabi Alonso expressed, “It wasn’t our best day, but important that we showed a response.”

The victory propelled Leverkusen into the next round with a 3-2 win (5-4 on aggregate).
