LG Recalls 500,000 Stoves Over Fire Risk from Unintentional Burner Activations

Unintentional burner activations have led LG Electronics to call back 500,000 stove models sold in the U.S. over the past decade.
The unintentional burner activations have been termed a safety hazard of a very high degree and the U.S. consumer protection watchdog CPSC, announced the recall in February.
Most of the recalled models feature front-mounted knobs which can be accidentally turned on when someone bumps against it or by pets and it could lead to accidental burner activation.
Consumer Product Safety Commission or CPSC in an announcement stated,
“These LG ranges have been involved in more than 28 fires. At least five fires caused extensive property damage totaling over $340,000. At least eight minor injuries have been reported, including burns, and there have been reports of three fires involving pet deaths.”
Most of the models are manufactured between 2015 and January 2025. The agency has revealed that there have been incidents of 86 unintended activities which caused 28 fires, eight injuries, and three pet fatalities. In five cases there have been major property damages.

Although these models are being recalled there will be no repairs, replacements, or refunds and LG is offering to mail warning stickers which bear messages to remind consumers to engage the stove’s built-in safety lock feature, inbuilt in all LG Models manufactured after 2015. The lock feature which prevents accidental burner activation is manually operated.
The Agency has also highlighted safety concerns with electric stoves and stated that since 2018 there have been 1500 accidents across the US and also included fatalities. A similar knob related issue led Samsung to recall 1 million of its models due to a fire risk.
Consumers who are using the above-mentioned models can contact LG Electronics at 800-399-3265 from 9 a.m.–6 p.m. EST, weekdays or via email at lgrange.recall@lge.com. They can also seek model verification and sticker requests on LG’s recall website.
