Liquor, cash, and freebies worth over Rs 150 crore seized in Rajasthan following election announcement
Jaipur, March 24 (IANS) Drugs, liquor, precious metals, freebies, and unaccounted cash worth Rs 248 crore have been seized by various government agencies since the beginning of March. Out of this, material worth Rs 150 crore was confiscated after the Lok Sabha election schedule was announced, officials said on Sunday.
Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Gupta stated that agencies in the state are vigilant against suspicious items and illegal money use to influence voters, resulting in continuous seizures across Rajasthan. Seven districts – Jodhpur, Pali, Jaipur, Udaipur, Bhilwara, Ganganagar, and Barmer – have recorded seizures of more than Rs 10 crore each.
Jodhpur leads with seizures worth Rs 32.88 crore, while Pali follows closely with Rs 18.61 crore. Jaipur reported seizures of Rs 17.63 crore, Udaipur Rs 13.70 crore, Bhilwara Rs 13.08 crore, Ganganagar Rs 12.65 crore, and Barmer Rs 11.17 crore in confiscated items.
The crackdown on illegal substances and cash is part of efforts to curb malpractices and ensure fair elections in Rajasthan. Authorities remain committed to maintaining a level playing field for all candidates and parties contesting in the upcoming elections.
Authorities continue to urge the public to report any suspicious activities related to election malpractices and cooperate with the enforcement agencies to uphold the integrity of the electoral process.
