Who is Luigi Mangione? Educational Qualification and Work Experience Of Prime Suspect Arrested in United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson’s Shooting
Police have arrested a prime suspect in the shooting of United Healthcare’s chief executive, Brian Thompson, in New York City last week.
The 26-year-old suspect whose name was Luigi Mangione has been charged with murder, firearm charges and falsifying identification documents.
The arrest was announced by Police on Monday.
Luigi Mangione Was Arrested From McDonald’s
According to a release by Police, Luigi Mangione was identified at a McDonald’s outlet in Altoona, Pennsylvania by a customer who informed the McDonald’s officials who in turn alerted the Police.
Police found in Luigi Mangione’s possession a 3-D printed Ghost Gun, and a silencer along with a Glock magazine containing six nine-millimeter full metal jacket rounds.
Police also recovered a three-page handwritten document and the contents reveal the motivation and mindset of the shooter.
Luigi Mangione was a native of Maryland where he was born and raised. He belonged to a wealthy family and his family had businesses which included clubs and nursing homes.
According to New York Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny, the suspect had no prior criminal record and was never arrested.

School
The suspect did his schooling from an all-boy school in Baltimore, called the Gilman School. He was a bright student and excelled academically to the point that he was awarded for being the student with the highest academic achievements in a class.
The Gilman School in a statement has termed the development and the involvement of a former student in the shooting as extremely distressing. His former schoolmates told media house Associated Press that the suspect came from a very wealthy background and had all the luxuries of life.
It is revealed that Republican state lawmaker Nino Mangione is his cousin and in a statement said that the family is very shocked and devastated by the developments.
University
Luigi Mangione holds a Bachelors and Masters degree in Computer Science from the University of Pennsylvania.
He also founded a video game development club and was described as a “super normal” and “smart person”.
Occupation
Luigi Mangione worked as a data engineer at a digital retailing website which sold new and used cars named TrueCar.
However, a spokesman for the firm has stated that he had not worked with them since 2023.
He also worked as a video game developer at Firaxis.
Police also revealed that he carried several IDs which included a real one and fake ones which he used to check into a New York Hostel where he was reportedly seen just before the shooting.
The IDs included a US passport and a fake New Jersey ID.
The suspect lied about his name when he was arrested and when he was informed that he could be arrested for faking his identity he revealed that his name was Luigi Mangione.
