Maegan Hall and City of La Vergne Settle for $5 Million Over Lawsuit
In 2023, the La Vergne Police Department was hit by an explosive sex scandal involving former police officer Maegan Hall.
The sex scandal considerably tarnished the city police image and led to a lawsuit being instituted by Maegan against La Vergne police and three of her superiors.
The lawsuit alleged that Megan’s superiors groomed her for sexual misconduct. However, the lawsuit has been settled, and the city has agreed to pay $500,000. The La Vergne city leaders voted 3 to 1 during a special meeting Wednesday night.
The La Vergne Board of Mayor and Aldermen came together to vote 3-1, with only one dissenting vote, Alderman Dennis Waldron, to authorize the mayor to sign a settlement agreement between the City of La Vergne and former police officer Maegan Hall.
The money was paid by the City’s insurance provider and not from the taxpayers’ money. The gross settlement of $5 Million was reached, and it would cover court costs, attorney’s fees, and expenses. The city also washed its hands of any admission of liability.
The genesis of this scandal can be traced to January 2023 when the sex scandal made headlines and unearthed a pattern of inappropriate activity inside the department. There were reports of sexual acts between officers on duty in the city premises.
Inappropriate pictures and videos were also shared among officers, with the Police Chief also being aware of the happenings.
In a statement to a news channel, Maegan Hall said that the La Vergne Police Department was not protecting her.
Her attorney in the lawsuit alleged that Hall was working in a hostile environment and her former supervisors groomed her for sexual misconduct.
When the news first hit the newspapers, Hall, along with four other officers and the police chief, were fired.
An internal investigation by headquarters had revealed that her supervisor, Sgt. Lewis Powell, was one of the revelers.
It was also revealed that Hall had sent nude pictures in which she went topless from a hot tub party to her colleagues.
She is also reported to have performed oral sex on two fellow cops while on duty.
She also participated in an alleged threesome with one of her police paramours and his wife.
Police Chief Burrell “Chip” Davis also was fired since he was aware of the goings-on and even joked about it and talked about a 13-minute video clip which featured Hall masturbating.
The clip was also shared among the police officers.
Hall’s lawsuit also alleged that the sexual impropriety began after her alleged affair with Powell and then other cops also targeted her for sex.
Hall said in March 2023,
“I know what most people are saying. You know, ‘You could’ve said no.’ I get it. But my response to them is I did say no, and [Powell] wouldn’t take no for an answer. Eventually, I gave in from pressure.”
Hall’s lawyer said that Hall was just like a piece of meat which was thrown before a pack of wolves.
