Maharana Pratap, the ruler of Mewar, is considered to be the bravest Hindu king during the Mughal rule. Maharana Pratap was a Hindu Rajput king of the Mewar princely state located in the Indian state of Rajasthan. Maharana Pratap belonged to the Sisodia clan of Rajputs. Maharana Pratap Jayanti is celebrated every year to commemorate the birthday of Maharana Pratap. Maharana Pratap is famous as a true patriot who started the First War of Independence.
Maharana Pratap was born on 9 May 1540 according to the Julian calendar. However, his birth anniversary is also celebrated on the Tritiya Tithi of Jyeshtha Shukla according to the Hindu calendar. This year in 2025, Maharana Pratap Jayanti will be celebrated on Friday, May 9. He was born to King Maharana Udai Singh II, the ruler of the Mewar Kingdom. At that time, the capital of the Mewar Kingdom was Chittor. His presence is still very much felt in the architecture and traditions of Rajasthan.
He was the great king of the Sisodia Rajput dynasty of Mewar, Udaipur in the sixteenth century. He is immortalized in history for his valor, courage and bravery. Maharana Pratap was very fond of his horse Chetak. He considered him his friend. He fought many important battles against Akbar including the Battle of Haldighati in 1576. His bravery inspired many others who later revolted against the Mughals. Maharana Pratap suffered severe injuries after a hunting accident in January 1597 and died on 29 January of the same year.
