Mamata Banerjee describes meeting with PM Modi as a ‘courtesy’ meeting

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Raj Bhavan in Kolkata on Friday. They had a brief interaction, which Banerjee described as a ‘protocol’ meeting between the Prime Minister and a Chief Minister. The meeting took place during Modi’s two-day visit to the state, where he addressed a public rally at Arambagh in Hooghly district.

After the meeting, Banerjee told the media that it was a courtesy meeting as per protocol. She mentioned that the Lok Sabha polls dates are yet to be announced and such interactions between the Prime Minister and Chief Minister are common. Banerjee updated Modi about the state affairs during the meeting, emphasizing that it was more of a courteous interaction than a political exchange.

When asked about pending Central dues to the state government, Banerjee stated that she would address such issues from political platforms. She reiterated that the meeting was a protocol-driven one and not a platform for discussing political matters. Modi is scheduled to address a rally at Krishnanagar in Nadia district on Saturday and another rally at Barasat in North 24 Parganas district on March 6.

The brief interaction between Mamata Banerjee and Narendra Modi at Raj Bhavan showcased a display of protocol and courtesy. Banerjee highlighted the nature of the meeting as a common practice during the Prime Minister’s visit to any state. The meeting provided an opportunity for Banerjee to update Modi on state affairs, setting the tone for future engagements between the two leaders.
