Man Blackmails Minor on Snapchat by Posing as a Girl to Share Inappropriate Pictures

New Delhi, Feb 29 (IANS): In a shocking incident, a 27-year-old man was caught in Uttarakhand for pretending to be a girl and coercing a minor girl to share explicit images on Snapchat. The Delhi Police disclosed this on Thursday, revealing the accused as Subhan Ali from Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand.

The arrest came after the father of a school-going minor girl filed a complaint on February 20 about his daughter being blackmailed into sharing nude photos and videos. The girl had been using her phone for online classes when her mother discovered the alarming content on Snapchat, prompting the complaint.

Investigations revealed that the accused posed as a girl on Snapchat to engage with the victim, initiating a game of ‘Truth and Dare’ that led to the girl sharing inappropriate photos and videos. The accused then coerced her into further explicit conversations, threatening her if she did not comply with his demands.

Following the complaint, a case was registered under section 354 D of the IPC and 12 POCSO Act. Subsequent technical analysis traced the accused’s activities back to Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand, leading to his arrest on February 24 after raids at potential locations.

Upon interrogation, the accused confessed to his crimes, with the recovery of the smartphone used for the offence. The Delhi Police expressed satisfaction with the successful apprehension of the perpetrator and the recovery of incriminating evidence.

The case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers lurking on social media platforms and the importance of vigilance in monitoring children’s online activities. Authorities urge parents to remain proactive in safeguarding their children from potential threats in the digital realm.
