Maruti Suzuki sees 15% increase in car sales for March with SUVs and MPVs
Maruti Suzuki has seen a 15% increase in passenger car sales in March with the help of SUVs and MPVs, reaching over 1.52 lakh sales. While compact cars like Baleno and Swift continue to decline, overall sales for the financial year surpassed 21 lakh cars.
In the compact car segment, Maruti sold models like Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift, and WagonR. Despite a decrease in sales compared to last year, Maruti is expected to see a positive trend with the launch of facelift versions of the Swift and Dzire later this year.
On the other hand, Maruti’s SUVs and MPVs saw a significant increase in sales, with 58,436 units sold in March, a 57% jump from the previous year. Models like Brezza, Fronx, and Grand Vitara led the sales in the SUV segment, while Ertiga and XL6 dominated the MPV segment.
Small cars like Alto and S-Presso also witnessed an increase in sales in March, with 11,829 units sold, slightly higher than last year. However, the mid-size sedan Ciaz saw only 590 units dispatched last month, reflecting a different trend within Maruti’s lineup.
Overall, Maruti Suzuki set a record by selling 21.35 lakh cars in the past 12 months, marking a significant milestone for the largest car manufacturer in India. With exports also reaching a new high of 2.83 lakh units in the last financial year, Maruti’s presence in the global market continues to grow.
