Court Sets May 16 Sentencing for Nima Momeni in Murder of CashApp Founder Bob Lee

A court has fixed May 16 as the date when it will sentence Nima Momeni, the man convicted of murdering CashApp founder Bob Lee in San Francisco in 2023.
Nima Momeni did not appear for the hearing. On the sentencing day, statements are expected from members of the Lee family, including the victim’s brother Oliver Lee, ex-wife Krista Lee, his father, and possibly his two children.
Nima Momeni to Be Sentenced on May 16 for Murder of Bob Lee
Both Krista Lee and Oliver Lee appeared remotely, while Momeni’s mother was present in the courtroom. The prosecutor had earlier demanded an earlier date for the sentencing but later agreed to a May 16 sentencing date.
Nima Momeni stands convicted of second-degree murder in the stabbing of Bob Lee, who was the chief technology officer of Square and the chief product officer of MobileCoin. However, Momeni was able to escape serious charges of premeditated first-degree murder.
According to the prosecutor’s account, Momeni stabbed Lee with a kitchen knife after an altercation with Bob Lee pertaining to the latter’s relationship with his sister and their ongoing drug use.
The trial, which extended for almost a week, was interspersed with theatrical testimony, including testimony by Nima Momeni’s sister, Khazar Momeni, who kept insisting that her brother did not kill Lee. Khazar also revealed several darker aspects of Lee’s life, including his drug abuse and the events leading up to the fatal stabbing under the Bay Bridge in San Francisco’s East Cut neighborhood.
Nima Momeni also had an altercation with the prosecutors when he was cross-examined and revealed how Lee allegedly attacked him. However, prosecutors put him in a spot when they revealed that Nima had called his attorneys and texted messages to his sister instead of calling the police after the incident.
As per the media outlet The Wall Street Journal, both Bob Lee and Khazar Momeni were members of drug-laced and illegal party setups, known in the wealthy Bay Area tech circles as “The Lifestyle.”
The autopsy of Bob Lee by the medical examiner revealed that he died on the operating table and had consumed alcohol, cocaine, and ketamine.
The maximum sentence for second-degree murder is a 15-year-to-life sentence and includes an enhancement for using a knife in the crime.
