Mayawati to kick off BSP’s election campaign in western UP today

Lucknow, April 14 (IANS) BSP Chief Mayawati is set to kick off her party’s election campaign in west Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, coinciding with the birth anniversary of B.R. Ambedkar. She aims to strengthen the party’s presence in the region, known as BSP’s stronghold.

Mayawati will address a series of public meetings starting from Deoband tehsil of Saharanpur on April 19, followed by Muzaffarnagar. The party is focusing on the Dalit-Muslim formula to retain its three seats won in the region in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

The BSP has strategically fielded Majid Ali from Saharanpur and Dara Singh Prajapati from Muzaffarnagar. The party denied a ticket to the sitting MP and expressed confidence in candidates who have influence over the respective communities in the area.

Mayawati’s campaign will also cover Rampur, Moradabad, Nagina, Bijnor, Ghaziabad, Baghpat, Amroha, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Bulandshahr, Meerut, and Hapur in the coming days. The election in west Uttar Pradesh is crucial for BSP as it looks to challenge the BJP and SP for remaining seats.

National Coordinator Akash Anand has also been mobilizing the cadre for the Lok Sabha elections. Mayawati’s focus on the region underscores the party’s commitment to retaining its traditional stronghold in west Uttar Pradesh.
