Meet Noida’s good men, who feed birds & strays in the summer heat

Noida– A self-employed Deepanshu Sharma lives with his family in Sector-41 along with setting up a small grocery store in the same sector. He has completed his undergraduate from Meerut, Choudhary Charan Singh University. Every day in the morning, he re-fill the earthen pots he has set in different locations in the city with grains such as wheat and muze etc and water. He is a part of a group of volunteers consisting of 8-10 members all between the age of 20-27. They are responsible for feeding stray dogs and birds so that they don’t quench thirst and hunger. It will provide great relief to these animals from the summer heat. The areas they have placed such pots are police stations, religious areas, main squares and main markets etc.

The group works under the NGO named Jeevan Arpan Samajik Seva Sansthan and named their feeding initiative dana pani (food and water). They also offer earthen pots to residents free of cost who wants to do the same for birds and stray dogs. They also offer medical assistance to injured stray cows free of cost.  “Just like humans, every living being needed some respite from the scorching heat. The environment, trees, plants, animals and birds etc have great importance as they are part that balances nature. Considering this, we started the ‘Dana Pani’ initiative for the birds and it is our humble request to all the people of Noida to keep pots or bowls filled with grains and water for these birds on their roofs, balconies, or any nearby location so that these birds can feed themselves,” Sharma stated.

Tushar Gupta 22, a volunteer of the same group, stated that all the expenses used in the initiative is covered from their pocket.“We do not have any funds or arrangements from anywhere. For all the work, our team members serve by contributing among themselves. We are on the same page on such issues and want to do our bit for the birds and animals who have no one to care for on the streets,” said Gupta.
