Melinda Gates Resigns As Co-Chair of Gates Foundation, Bill Gates Responds

The co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Melinda French Gates, has announced her resignation from the organization. She announced that it was the appropriate time for her to step into a new chapter of her journey towards philanthropy.

Melinda announced her resignation by stating that it was a critical moment for her to work towards protecting women’s rights globally. She added that she wants to work towards supporting those vulnerable women in need.

Melinda French Gates’s resignation comes after approximately three years after the announcement of divorce between Bill and Melinda Gates. They declared their divorce in May 2021.

Melinda went to X, formerly Twitter and wrote, “After careful thought and reflection, I have decided to resign from my role as co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. My last day of work at the foundation will be June 7th. This is not a decision I take lightly. I am immensely proud of the foundation that Bill and I built together, and of the extraordinary work it is doing to address inequities worldwide.”

Furthermore, she expressed her support towards the foundation team, her partners residing worldwide. With this, she declared to pass on her responsibility to Mark Suzman, the extremely capable CEO, along with an experienced board of trustees, and the Executive Leadership Team.

According to The ET, Melinda’s hints were directed towards her working for women and families in need. She mentioned a package worth $12.5 billion, which she is entitled to get from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation under the terms of her agreement.

She added, “This is a critical moment for women and girls in the US and around the world-and those fighting to protect and advance equality are in urgent need of support.

Melinda concluded, “I will have an additional $12.5 billion to commit to my work on behalf of women and families. I’ll be sharing more about what that will look like in the near future.”
