Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 to Include Reserve Days for Semifinals and Final

Dubai, March 15 (IANS) The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 will have reserve days for the semifinals and final. The decision was taken during the ICC’s annual Board meetings in Dubai. The tournament will be jointly hosted by the West Indies and the USA from June 1 to 29.

The ICC also approved playing conditions for the Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 and announced the qualification process for the 2026 edition, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. A minimum of five overs will be needed to constitute a game in the group stages and the Super Eight stage, while for knockout matches, a minimum of 10 overs will be required.

The top eight teams in the 2024 edition will qualify automatically for the 2026 tournament, along with India and Sri Lanka. The remaining spots will be filled by the next best-ranked teams in the ICC Men’s T20I rankings table as of June 30, 2024, and through Regional Qualifiers. The ICC’s decision to introduce reserve days comes after criticism over the absence of such rules in previous editions.

“The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 qualification process has been approved, with India and Sri Lanka set to co-host the tournament,” the ICC said in a release. The new regulations aim to ensure fair play and smooth running of the prestigious cricket event. The anticipation is high for the upcoming T20 World Cup, as teams gear up for intense competition.

The introduction of reserve days for the semifinals and final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 is a significant step towards improving the overall experience for players and fans. The decision to implement this rule showcases the ICC’s commitment to enhancing the integrity and competitiveness of the tournament. Cricket enthusiasts can look forward to an exciting and action-packed event in 2024.
