Meta removes over 18 million pieces of harmful content from Facebook and Instagram in India during February

New Delhi, April 2 (IANS) Meta released its monthly compliance report stating the takedown of 13.8 million pieces of bad content on Facebook and 4.8 million objectionable content on Instagram in India in February. The report also highlighted the number of user reports and actions taken by the company.

In February, Facebook received 18,512 reports through the Indian grievance mechanism and provided tools for users to resolve their issues in 9,300 cases. Meta mentioned that they have pre-established channels for reporting violations, self-remediation flows, and ways to address account hacking.

Meta analyzed content as per their policies and took action on 2,970 complaints out of 9,212 reports requiring specialized review. On Instagram, the company received 12,709 reports through the grievance mechanism, providing tools for users to resolve issues in 5,344 cases and taking action on 2,470 complaints.

With the implementation of the IT Rules 2021, digital and social media platforms with more than 5 million users are required to publish monthly compliance reports. Meta explained that action taken against content could include removal or covering of posts, photos, videos, or comments that go against their standards.

In January, Meta removed 17.8 million pieces of content on Facebook and 4.8 million objectionable pieces on Instagram. These numbers reflect the company’s efforts to maintain a safe and compliant online environment for users in India as per the regulatory guidelines.
