Microsoft Introduces Image Upscaling Technology for Games Developed in Collaboration with Nvidia and AMD
Microsoft has introduced a new Windows API called DirectSR, that will allow game developers to integrate AI-enabled super-resolution upscaling features from Nvidia, AMD, and Intel. This API aims to bridge the gap between video games and super-resolution technologies, providing a more efficient and scalable experience across different hardware.
In a blog post, Microsoft programme manager Joshua Tucker explained, “We’re thrilled to announce DirectSR, our new API designed in partnership with GPU hardware vendors to enable seamless integration of Super Resolution (SR) into the next generation of games.” This API will enable multi-vendor SR through a common set of inputs and outputs, allowing various solutions like Nvidia DLSS Super Resolution, AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution, and Intel XeSS.
Super Resolution is a cutting-edge technique that enhances resolution and visual quality in games. The new API will soon be available in the Agility SDK as a public preview, enabling developers to test it out and provide feedback. On a different note, Microsoft’s Vice Chair and President Brad Smith has revealed the company’s plans to expand its AI and cloud infrastructure in Spain with a $2.1 billion investment in the next two years.
