Viral bodybuilder Mike O’Hearn and Rampage Jackson will lock horns in the upcoming Bloodsport event
Viral bodybuilder Mike O’Hearn has confirmed he will lock horns with former UFC champion Rampage Jackson in the upcoming Bloodsport event. The combat sports arena is becoming stranger and now Rampage Jackson has found himself in the middle of this melee.
Former UFC champion Rampage Jackson is not a new name and has behind him a lengthy and successful career in the sport of mixed martial arts. He is regarded as one of the best fighters in the world during his peak. However his past exploits has not overawed viral bodybuilder Mike O’Hearn who is welcoming a fight in the upcoming Bloodsport event against the former UFC champion.
The news was first broken by Bloodsport Bushido on X when it released a list of fighters who will be a part of the action and Rampage Jackson and Mike O’Hearn stood out in the list as two of the most prominent fighters. Besides Bloodsport Bushido’s announcement on X, Mike O’Hearn has also confirmed the forthcoming bout on his Instagram page.
Mike O’Hearn also expressed his gratitude to Josh Barnett for making this unthinkable encounter possible.
Mike O’Hearn has a budding bodybuilding and modeling career but he is also known for his social media meme accompanied by an altered version of the Haddaway song, “What Is Love”.
What is Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport?
Bloodsport is a wee bit different sport since it incorporates some elements of professional wrestling and mixed martial arts. The first Bloodsport event was held in April of 2019 and it featured Barnett himself taking on Minoru Suzuki. The competition is held inside something similar to a traditional wrestling ring but there are no ropes and turnbuckles but just the canvas. There is much similarity with any professional wrestling event but with a difference- each matchup must end with one competitor winning by a knockout or submission.
Rampage Jackson is not the only big name who has participated inside the Bloodsport ring. Many UFC alumni like Josh Barnett, Frank Mir, Matt Riddle, Shayna Baszler, Dan Severn, and Tom Lawlor have all participated in the Bloodsport event.
The announcement of the unique event between O’Hearn and Jackson in Tokyo is a testimony of the metamorphosis of combat sports events. The lines between entertainment and competitive sports are getting progressively blurred and have also highlighted the increasing relevance of events like Bloodsport in the combat sports realm.
The Bloodsport event in Japan is scheduled for June 22nd and the following names will be joining Barnett and Minoru Suzuki in the upcoming Bloodsport event:
- Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson
- Davey Boy Smith Jr.
- Mike O’Hearn
- Kazushi Sakuraba
- Davit Modzmanashvili
- Masakatsu Funaki
