Mohammedan Sporting coach Andrey Chernyshov aims to win trophy in front of home fans in I-League 2023-24

In a thrilling match at the SSA Stadium in Shillong, Mohammedan Sporting clinched their maiden I-League title by defeating Shillong Lajong 2-1. Coach Andrey Chernyshov expressed the team’s desire to lift the trophy in front of their home fans in Kolkata after their final match of the season.

Despite needing only a point to secure the title, Mohammedan Sporting gave it their all and emerged victorious with two brilliant goals from Alexis Nahuel Gomez and Evgenii Kozlov. The historic win brought scenes of joy to the Black and White Brigade, marking a special moment for the Kolkata club.

Head coach Andrey Chernyshov lauded his players for their hard work throughout the season, stating, “This is a historic moment for the club. We have had to fight for this position all season long and now have finally achieved the status of champions.” He credited the club’s support and described the win as the greatest day of his coaching career.

With an unassailable tally of 52 points from 23 matches, Mohammedan Sporting clinched the I-League 2023-24 title with one game to spare. Goalkeeper Padam Chettri, who played a pivotal role with eight clean sheets, expressed the team’s happiness and thanked fans for their support.

Looking ahead to their final match against Delhi FC in Kolkata, coach Chernyshov emphasized the team’s focus on celebrating with their supporters.
