The second wave of Covid is increasing rapidly in the country these days, now more than two lakh positive cases are being reported in a day.

The sudden spread of Covid infection is believed to be due to the new corona variant B.1.617 found in India, which has also been named as ‘double mutant’.

The new variant B.1.617 has been found in India as two mutations E482Q and L452R. It was first reported by an Indian scientist in Maharashtra on 5 October 2020. It was presented to the WHO on Monday. This information was given by the WHO’s Technical Lead Officer on Covid van Karkhove while addressing the journalists on Friday. He also said that “We are examining this variant carefully.
