Mukbang Creator Pan Xiaoting Passes Away from Overeating
Pan was only 24 years old when she passed away. Her autopsy showed that she died from overeating. Her stomach was filled with undigested food, which weighed over 10 kg.
Her death has sparked discussions on social media about overeating and obesity, which are the leading causes of death nowadays.
In 2021, China passed a law that banned mukbangs from eating too much because it caused massive food wastage. The government passed an anti-food waste law which made people not order too much food from restaurants online.
Even though the law was up and running, mukbang content continues to be popular online.

In mukbang, people also tend to throw the food in mid-shot, because of the huge quantity they portray in their videos.
Pan Xiaoting’s death has been a cause for content on social media because of how unexpectedly she passed away at such a young age.
People are showering her with condolences and apologies because of her untimely death.
