According to the Hindi calendar, the festival of Naramasimha Jayanti is celebrated every year on the Chaturdashi date of the month of Vaishakh. Naramasimha Jayanti has special significance in Hinduism. This day is dedicated to Lord Narasimha, the fierce form of Lord Vishnu. Narasimha Jayanti is also called Narasimha Chaturdashi. It is believed that fasting on this day and worshiping Lord Narasimha or Lord Vishnu destroys all enemies. This year in 2025, the festival of Naramasimha Jayanti will be celebrated on Sunday, May 11.
The aim of Naramasimha Jayanti is to end unrighteousness and follow the path of righteousness. According to beliefs, Lord Narasimha appeared by splitting a pillar to protect devotee Prahlad. Devotee Prahlad’s father Hiranyakashipu intimidated his son, who was a great devotee of Lord Vishnu, and tortured him a lot to make him give up devotion to Lord Vishnu. Lord Vishnu appeared in the body of Narasimha, half man and half lion. He made Hiranyakashipu sit on his lap and killed him with his pointed nails.
Lord Vishnu has taken incarnations from time to time to establish Dharma. The fifth incarnation among them is that of Lord Narasimha. Naramasimha Jayanti, also known as Narasimha Chaturdashi, symbolizes the victory of good over evil, knowledge over ignorance, and protection of devotees.
