As per the Hindu Vedas and Puranas, the story behind the celebration of Narasimha Jayanti is described beautifully. There lived a demon king named Hiranyakashyap. He portrayed and claimed himself as the highest form of Deity. His son, Prahalad never acknowledged him as a God. On the contrary, Prahalad was a big devotee of Lord Vishnu. This thing was not acceptable to his father, Hiranyakashyap. Even after continuous attempts, Hiranyakashyap failed to break his son’s devotion to Vishnu. At last, Hiranyakashyap decided to kill his son, lest failed many times. Prahalad was saved by deity, Lord Vishnu.

Hiranyakashyap possessed a boon from deities that his death can not be caused by normal means. The one who can kill him can’t be a demon, animal, or human. No one is born or exists on Earth, or the sky can kill him. He can not be killed either at night or in the day. One day, Hiranyakashyap crossed his limits so Lord Vishnu appeared to save his devotee. Lord Vishnu took the form of Narasimha, who is neither a man nor an animal or demon. He came out of the walls and killed Hiranyakashyap in the evening, which isn’t either day or night. Thus, Hiranyakashyap got killed, Prahalad was saved and this world witnessed the 4th incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
