The US space agency NASA has selected the Indian Raja Jon Vurputoor Chari for its moon mission 2024. The space agency has announced the names of 18 astronauts, including Chari, for this mission.

There are 9 women among them. Chari, (Age 43), has been a Colonel in the American Airforce. He also commanded the Advanced Fighter Jet F-35 fleet. He later became the director of the Integrated Test Force. Among the people selected for the mission, only Chari is Indian.

NASA’s Mission 2024 is named Artemis Moon Mission. The special thing is that 9 female astronauts have also been selected for this mission. For the first time, women will land on the moon’s surface.

The mission will cost 28 billion dollars (about 2 lakh crore rupees). 16 billion dollars (about one and a quarter million rupees) will be spent on the module. From 1969 to 1972, the US has sent 6 missions to the moon, including Apollo-11.

Chari is the third Indian elected for the US Special Mission

Raja was elected to the Artemis program in August 2017. Completed basic training in 2019. Along with the Lunar mission, he is also working for NASA’s International Space Station and Mars missions.

He is the third person of Indian origin selected for an American space mission. Prior to that, Kalpana Chawla and Sunita Williams have joined NASA’s mission.

The youngest astronaut involved in the mission is 30 years old

Most of the Astronauts involved in the Artemis Moon mission are between 30 and 40 years old. All of them have different fields of science experience. Information about who will be given responsibility during the flight has not been given at the moment.
