The first Thursday of May in the United States is marked annually as the National Day of Prayer, which aims to provide citizens with a day to connect with the Supreme Being or God. The then US President Harry S. Truman Proclaimed the first National Day of Prayer marked on July 4, 1952, which was later changed to the first Thursday of May in 1988 by Ronald Reagan, the 40th US President. Truman, he wasn’t the one who initiated this day, as per nationalcalendar.com, In the early 1950s, an evangelical motion started for Congress and the President to declare a National Day of Prayer begin, as the movement grew Evangelist Billy Graham, a young leader led services for about 20K on the steps of the Capitol on 3 February 1952. Later that same year, congress passed the resolution to celebrate this annual day.
