National Moon Day 2021 History, Significance, Celebration, Activities, Facts and More: Every Year, National Moon Day is celebrated on 20 July. The day marks the historic event when American astronaut Neil Armstrong took his first step on Moon in 1969. The day commemorates the historic and biggest achievement of humans in Space Science. Neil and his Co-astronaut Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin spent about two and half hours on the surface of the Moon. National Moon Day History

37th U.S. President, Richard Nixon proclaimed the celebration on National Moon Day on 20th July in 1971. The motive of the day was to honour the greatest achievement of humans in space science. This year (2021), the Historic achievement has completed 51 years.

Why National Moon Day is celebrated? In Brief

On 16 July 1969, Apollo 11 take off with 3 Astronauts with the hope of the biggest achievement of humans in space science. After 4 days of space travel at the speed of about 2,040 miles/hour, Apollo 11 finally reached the Moon. According to Records, the Apollo Lunar Module Eagle landed on the moon at 20:17 UTC. Neil Armstrong and Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin took their feet on the moon surface, while the third astronaut, Michael Collins was flying the Apollo 11 command module Columbia around the Moon. They established American Flag on the surface. And, while returning they took various things with them for research. On 24 July 1969, they came back to the earth.
