National Nurses Day 2023: Date
On May 6th, National Nurses Day honors the superstars of healthcare.
History
National Nursing Week, which begins on May 8 and finishes on May 12, is named in honor of Florence Nightingale. In order to acknowledge Nightingale’s crucial service in Crimea, this week was initially observed in October 1954. President Eisenhower was requested by Dorothy Sutherland of the U.S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare in 1953 to establish a “Nurse Day” in October of the subsequent year. The President didn’t take any action, but the festivities went on as a result of a bill Representative Frances P. Bolton introduced.
The next year, a new measure to formally recognize the holiday was presented to Congress. Over 3 million nurses are employed in the US, making up the majority of the nursing staff. The average workday for a nurse involves 5 kilometers of walking. Unexpectedly, nurses are far more probable than building employees to experience back pain while on duty. This is due to the physically taxing nature of providing for the wellness of others.
