In the United States and Canada, May 20 is annually marked as National Rescue Dog Day. The day aims to raise awareness for rescue dogs across the country. Inspired by her personal rescue dogs, American author Lisa Wiebrink celebrated National Rescue Dog Day for the first time in 2018. Lisa is also the founder of Tails That Teach, an organization that assists children to understand the kind and proper treatment of their pets. Lisa started this day by getting inspired from her beloved rescue dog Cooper, who she adopted from a Los Angeles shelter in 2009.
