National Vaccination Day is celebrated on 16 March every year. This year i.e 2024 it will fall on Saturday. Vaccines play a crucial role in curing those diseases that may be fatal to one’s health. Smallpox and Polio are some of the deadly diseases due to which many kids lost their lives. This is where vaccines were introduced.
Because of them, a person can lead a better life without any risk involved. This day is used to spread awareness about the importance of vaccines. They keep us healthy and safe. Whenever a pandemic occurs many front-line medical workers dedicate a lot of time to make sure every person is vaccinated.
Every year, this day is used to teach the importance of vaccines in one’s life. Seminars and workshops are conducted to introduce new vaccines or spread awareness about disease.
Back in 1988, on 16 March, the World Health Organization (WHO) Global Polio Eradication Initiative was introduced to remove the disease from the world. On the same day in 1995, the Government of India started a new Pulse Polio Immunisation Programme to remove polio from their country. So, since then, 16 March has been observed as National Vaccination Day.
National Vaccination Day 2024 Theme
This year’s theme will be “Vaccines Work For All”. It implies that any life regardless of location, age, or gender as well as from any socioeconomic level must be safe and protected from any deadly disease.
Many non-government and government organisations organise vaccination drives for kids as well as adults for various diseases. The main aim behind this is to vaccinate those who missed the scheduled immunisations.
