NEET UG Results 2024: Reasons Behind Students Securing 718, 719 Marks Explained Amid Scam Allegations

NEET UG 2024 results are out on its official website. Surprisingly, 67 candidates have secured AIR Rank 1 this year with a percentile score of 99.997129.

Many students have got 718 and 719 marks out of 720, which seems quite impossible to some.

So let us understand how NTA, the National Testing Agency, explains the full marks of students.

NTA has clarified that some of the students who raised concerns were awarded grace marks for loss of time during the NEER-UG 2024 test.

The latest update by NTA reads,

“NTA received few representations and Court Cases from the candidates of NEET UG 2024 raising concerns of loss of time during the conduct of the examination on 05.05.2024. Such cases/representations were considered by NTA and the normalization formula, which has been devised and adopted by the Hon’ble Apex Court, vide its Judgment dated 13.06.2018, was implemented to address the loss of time faced by the candidates of NEET UG 2024.”

The NTA explained that the candidates who faced a loss of time were compensated by awarding grace marks. Therefore, many candidates have secured 718 or 719.

NTA released a statement that numerous candidates shared the topper marks category-wise because SC was not present in the latest notification of results.

Grace marks in NEET 2024

The marking scheme of NEET UG involves 4 marks for each correct answer and one negative mark for each wrong answer. Considering the marking scheme, a candidate can secure the highest mark, either 720 or 716.

Thus, the marks sheets of students who secured 718 and 719 were heavily circulated all over the internet, attracting various kinds of reactions.

Several students questioned on the social media platforms the reason behind getting 718 or 719 marks and about the grace marks as well.

One student went to X and wrote,

“Dear NTA, that is too much, how can it be possible for a student to get 718 or 719 and why didn’t this happen before ???? Why is it happening for the first time? This has to be answered properly, not like this. Why are you neglecting to answer? Where is the answer to the leak?”
