Did Netflix Lose Six Million Subscribers After Reed Hastings Donates $7 Million To Kamala Harris Campaign?

Netflix Executive Chairman Reed Hastings’s donation of $7 million to US Vice President Kamala Harris’ election campaign has irked many, and there are claims that Netflix lost 6 million subscribers after this development.

There are also claims that Netflix lost $2 billion within two hours after this news was broken.

However, these claims are not true, and the streaming platform has neither lost any subscribers nor money.

The genesis of this false narrative can be traced to an X account named America’s Last Line Of Defense, which posted on social media platforms X and Facebook that Netflix lost more than six million subscribers after the donation announcement.

However, after digging into the origins of the Social Media group, it was revealed that it was a satirical post published without any solid proof.

The account mentions https://dunning-kruger-times.com/ in its bio, which on its about us page mentions that they are a “parody, satire and tomfoolery” website.

Netflix Executive Chairman Reed Hastings Donate $7 Million To Kamal Harris’ campaign

Reed Hastings, executive chairman of Netflix, donated $7 million to US Vice President Kamala Harris’ election campaign, and it is the single biggest donation by the streaming baron.

In an interview with a tech-business publication, Hastings stated that after a depressing debate, ‘we are in the game again.’ Hastings was referring to the disastrous Live TV debate between US President Joe Biden and former US President Donald Trump. The debate heightened concerns about Joe Biden’s health and ability to discharge his duties. The event and its fallout finally persuaded Joe Biden to withdraw from the Presidential Race and endorse Vice President Kamala Harris’ candidacy.

Hastings was one of the prominent personalities who had asked Joe Biden to step down as the next Presidential candidate so that Democrats could defeat Donald Trump.

Netflix exec posted on X,

“Congrats to Kamala Harris — now it is time to win.”
