New US sanctions planned against Iran in response to attacks on Israel

The US is planning new sanctions against Iran after Tehran’s missile and drone attacks on Israel. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan stated that President Joe Biden is coordinating with allies for a comprehensive response. The United States will impose new sanctions targeting Iran’s missile and drone program and entities supporting the IRGC.

Sullivan mentioned, “In the coming days, the United States will impose new sanctions targeting Iran, including its missile and drone program as well as new sanctions against entities supporting the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and Iran’s Defense Ministry.” Additionally, efforts are being made to strengthen air and missile defense systems in the Middle East.

Iran conducted a direct attack on Israel in response to the killing of high-ranking Iranian officers in Syria. This marks the first time in the history of the Islamic Republic that Iran has directly attacked Israel. The US is now planning a coordinated response with its allies and partners to address Iran’s actions.

This move comes as part of the efforts to erode the effectiveness of Iran’s missile and UAV capabilities. Sullivan highlighted the need to work with the Department of Defense and US Central Command to enhance the integration of air and missile defense systems in the region. The US is taking steps to address the escalating situation in the Middle East.
