New Web Portal Launched for Citizenship Seekers, Mobile App ‘CAA-2019’ in Development

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has launched a web portal for facilitating the registration of people seeking citizenship under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), 2019. The MHA also announced the upcoming launch of a mobile app called CAA-2019 to expedite applications by non-Muslim migrants.

The web portal and mobile app aim to simplify the procedure for non-Muslim migrants to apply for Indian citizenship. Migrants who fled Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan before 2015 are eligible to apply under the scheme by registering on the portal and creating individual logins.

The Centre notified the rules for CAA implementation and released application formats for migrants to apply for Indian citizenship. The law allows refugees of six religions, excluding Muslims, who faced persecution in the aforementioned countries before December 31, 2014, to seek Indian citizenship without a valid passport or visa.

The CAA aims to grant citizenship to non-Muslim migrants who faced religious persecution in neighboring countries. The new web portal and mobile app will streamline the application process for eligible individuals seeking Indian citizenship under the CAA.–IANS
