New Zealand Justice Minister Kiri Allan Resigns After Being Charged Over Car Crash

The world is going wild over the resignation of Kiri Allan because of careless driving. For those who don’t know Kiri Allan is a political figure in New Zealand. She is a member of Parliament (MP). She is from Labour Party and went on to win the East Coast electorate in 2020. Earlier in 2017, she was elected as a list MP. Apart from that, throughout her career she held many notable government positions.

Following her resignation, her mental health has been a concerning factor. Since her adulthood, she struggled with mental health problems. As per reports, before returning to the House of Representatives, she took an absence leave along with allegations related to bullying. In 2021, she was diagnosed with stage 3 cervical cancer. This made her take leave from her official duties and focus on her treatment. Basically, Cervical cancer involves abnormal growth of cells on the lining of the cervix. By the end of the year, she was declared cancer-free.

Recently she came into the limelight after being caught by the police for reckless driving and not following police rules and procedures. This caused a massive roar among the public. According to The Guardian, her car crashed in Wellington on Sunday around 9 pm. She was held responsible on the spot and later was charged with refusing to follow a police officer after her detention as well as negligent use of a motor vehicle. Also, she received an infringement notice for driving a car with an alcohol level between 250mcg and 400mcg.

She was also found with difficult relationships with many of her employees. The Prime Minister, Chris Hipkins states to have a discussion with Kiri Allan related to the concerned topic.
