A 27-year-old officer of the New York Police Department, Hieu Tran was associated with a fatal road rage incident that occurred last month in New Jersey. Currently, he is facing serious charges on the same.
As mentioned above Tran works for the NYPD, he clicks images on the social media accounts of the department managing media and public relations.
Notably, he turned up on Friday in Manhattan court.
Furthermore, Hieu Tran agreed to be extradited to New Jersey.
About the Incident
As per the New York Post, the alleged incident occurred in Voorhees, Camden County on May 17, around 11:15 p.m.
As per the Prosecutor’s Office of Camden County, a multi-vehicle accident was associated with the altercation.
Authorities claimed that Tran used his service armament and shot one of the other drivers involved in the collision.
The prosecutor has accused Tran of second-degree possession of an unauthorized weapon, aggravated assault of second-degree, and first-degree attempted murder.
The intensity of the incident is measured via the seriousness of these accusations.
Law enforcement officials revealed that one of the drivers who got serious injuries from a bullet has survived. However, he is still in the hospital.
A thorough investigation involving surveillance footage, mobile phone data, checking ballistic evidence showed that Tran was the gunman.
Reportedly, Tran was suspended by the NYPD without pay.
He was immediately taken into custody on Thursday.
Later, he was made ready to be extradited to New Jersey, to the Prosecutor’s Office in Camden County, reported Fox5.
The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, in an investigation, emphasized the significance of the investigation in a statement and said,
“Detectives utilized surveillance video, cell phone records, and ballistics evidence to identify [him] as the individual responsible for shooting the victim during an apparent road rage incident.”
The fate of these grave charges will be known in the upcoming court proceedings.
