Noida– In just two months monsoon is all set to enter northern parts of India. In order to handle the sewage and water vlogs, Noida Authority is looking to hire a contractor for the city’s drain cleaning. Most of the time heavy water clogs after rainfall leaves many residential areas filled with dirty water. Indu Prakash Singh, Noida’s officer on special duty (OSD) states- “Two tenders have been issued to hire contractors for the work. We will ensure all drains are cleaned properly so that there is no waterlogging in the rainy season. Drains will be cleaned between 7am and 4pm.” Apart from that, 405 rainwater harvesting pills will also be repaired and cleaned right before the arrival of the monsoon.

As for the tender, Noida Authority has instructed the agency to take proper precautions before cleaning the drains. “The contractor shall be responsible for the damage to any property or any injury to person whatsoever caused by him or anybody in his employment or caused in consequence of his work,” it further added. As per the India Meteorological Department, the southwest monsoon usually ends around in June around Kerala and then moves towards the north covering the whole country by July.

The general secretary Federation of Noida Residents Welfare Associations (FONRWA), KK Jain stated that the association has asked the local authority to get the drains cleaned through a letter.   “The Authority’s contractual workers normally clean the drain and leave the waste along it at the same spot. During rain, the waste finds its way back into the drain and the entire effort is wasted,” he stated.

“The drains should be cleaned throughout the year. We have found that a number of street food vendors and vegetable sellers set up stalls along the roads in the evening and dump plastic, cups, forks and other stuff in drains which slowly chokes them,” he said.
