Noida, Greater Noida to build a waste-to-energy plant

Greater Noida and Noida authorities have decided to come up together to build a massive waste-to-energy plant that will be spread over 30 acres of land in Astoli in order to handle and treat the twin cities’ waste. Both the authorities have signed an agreement along with the agencies that will build the plant afterwards.
“We have completed all formalities and roped in NTPC (National Thermal Power Corporation) and another private agency that will start work at the site shortly and become functional within 18 months’ time. As per the agreement, the two authorities will hand over the land. The responsibilities of setting up, maintaining and running the plant lie with these two agencies,” stated by Avinash Tripathi, an officer on special duty of the Noida authority.

They will be able to recycle dry as well as wet waste and turn it into green charcoal stated by officials. Per day, they will recycle 500 metric tonnes of waste from Greater Noida and 600 metric tonnes of waste from Noida.
“Another agency, Indo Environ Integrated Solutions Limited, will set up its plant on 10 acres of land. It will make compressed gas to be sold in the market. This plant will have a capacity of recycling 300 metric tonnes of waste daily. It will handle 200 metric tonnes of waste from Noida and 100 metric tonne of waste from Greater Noida,” added Tripathi.
“We are developing these two facilities keeping in mind the future needs by 2031. As of now, waste generation is low but it will increase as the population in the two cities will increase. With these two plants, the two cities will be able to address the waste issues,” Tripathi further added.
