NPP backs NDPP LS candidate in Nagaland and NPF nominee in Manipur
The National People’s Party (NPP), led by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, announced its support for NDPP and NPF candidates in Nagaland and Manipur respectively. NPP President Sangma confirmed the support for NDPP’s Chumben Murry in Nagaland and NPF’s Kachui Timothy Zimik in Manipur.
Sangma met with NDPP leader Neiphiu Rio to discuss the alliance. Murry, a consensus candidate of the ruling PDA in Nagaland, received the NPP’s backing, while Zimik replaced the sitting MP for the NPF in Manipur. The NPP, NPF, and NDPP are BJP-led NDA allies, with support being reciprocated among different northeastern states.
The BJP had previously declared support for NPP candidates in Meghalaya, NPF’s nominee in Manipur, and NDPP contender in Nagaland. The NPP, a dominant force in Meghalaya politics, has fielded state minister Ampareen Lyngdoh in Shillong and Agatha K. Sangma in Tura for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Agatha Sangma, Conrad Sangma’s sister, was the youngest Union Minister during the second UPA government.
