NTPC’s first solar project begins commercial ops

The first solar project of NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd. at Chhattargarh in Rajasthan has commenced operations with a capacity of 70 MW, as per an official statement. The full capacity of 150 MW is expected to be operational by March 2024. The project aims to generate clean energy, reduce CO2 emissions, and conserve water resources.

The Chhattargarh Solar project, secured under SECI-Tranche:III, will benefit the state of Rajasthan by providing renewable energy. Designed to produce 370 million units of energy annually, it can power 60,000 households and save 3 lakh tons of CO2 emissions while conserving 1,000 MMTPA of water, sufficient for over 5,000 households in a year.

NTPC-REL has 17 projects in progress, with a total capacity of over 6,000 MW. The NTPC Group’s operational renewable energy capacity is currently at 3,448 MW. This project reflects NTPC’s commitment to sustainability and renewable energy development, contributing to India’s clean energy goals and environmental conservation efforts.
