Nusrat Jahan Ruhi is a well-known Indian actress working mostly in Bengali cinema. She is also been actively involved in politics and later was elected as a Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha from Basirhat constituency as a Trinamool Congress candidate. She made her debut in Raj Chakraborty’s Shotru. 

Originally, Nusrat was born to a Bengali Muslim family in Kolkata, West Bengal on 8th January 1990. Her parents are Muhammed Shah Jahan and Sushma Khatun. She completed her schooling at Our Lady Queen of the Missions School, Kolkata and later completed her B.Com from Bhawanipur College.

In 2019, the CM of Bengal and president of the Trinamool Congress party, Mamata Banerjee announced that Nurat would be joining the party along with participating general election of 2019 from Basirhat Lok Sabha Constituency. She won the seat with 350,000 votes against BJP candidate Sayantan Basu.

Talking about her marriage or personal life, she married businessman Nikhil Jain in a massive ceremony in Turkey on 19th June 2019, and a reception was organised. It was attended by many notable personalities including Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her actress friend and co-Member of Parliament Mimi Chakraborty. 

Later, Nusrat claimed the marriage was not official- “it was nothing more than a live-in relationship”. Kolkata court even ruled Jahan and Jain’s marriage is legally invalid. In 2021, she started dating actor Yash Dasgupta.  On August 2021, the couple were blessed with a baby boy at a private hospital in Kolkata. His birth certificate reveals Dasgupta as his father. 

In 2017, she was seen in the movie ‘One’ alongside Prosenjit Chatterjee and Yash Dasgupta. The film was directed by Birsa Dasgupta. Her next movie was Ami Je Ke Tomar starring Ankush Hazra and Sayantika Banerjee. Earlier she worked with Ankush Hazra in Bolo Dugga Maiki in 2017.
