NZ's Devon Conway ruled out of first Test vs Aus with thumb injury

New Zealand opener Devon Conway will miss the first Test against Australia due to a thumb injury sustained during the T20 series. Henry Nicholls has been called in as cover. Conway was struck on his left thumb during the second T20I and additional scans revealed damage.
Following scans in Wellington, it was confirmed that Conway will miss the first Test against Australia due to the thumb injury. Coach Gary Stead expressed disappointment at losing Conway, a key player in the team’s top order, for the important match.
Henry Nicholls has been brought in as batting cover and will join the squad in Wellington for training. Nicholls, who has plenty of Test experience, will provide a valuable addition to the team’s batting order for the upcoming Test against Australia.
New Zealand currently leads the World Test Championship standings with a 75 percent win-loss percentage, while Australia sits at third with a 55 percent win-loss percentage. The team will provide further updates on Conway’s injury following medical consultation later in the week.
