Former J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to Contest Lok Sabha Election from Srinagar Constituency

Srinagar, April 11 (IANS) Former J&K Chief Minister and vice president of National Conference (NC), Omar Abdullah, will contest the upcoming Lok Sabha election from the Srinagar constituency. Sources within the NC have confirmed that Abdullah will be the party’s candidate for this seat.

Additionally, former minister and senior NC leader Chowdhary Mohd Ramzan will be contesting from the north Kashmir Baramulla seat, while senior Gujjar/Bakarwal leader Mian Altaf Ahmad has been announced as the candidate for the Anantnag-Rajouri constituency.

On the other hand, former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who is the president of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has decided to run for the Anantnag-Rajouri constituency. PDP has also named its candidates for other constituencies, with its youth wing president Waheed Parra running for Srinagar and former Rajya Sabha member Fayaz Ahmad Mir for the Baramulla seat.

While BJP has not yet announced its candidates for the three Lok Sabha seats in Kashmir, they have already nominated Dr Jitendra Singh for Kathua-Udhampur and Jugal Kishore Sharma for the Jammu-Reasi seat.

In a significant development, NC and Congress have formed an alliance for the elections. As part of this agreement, NC will be supporting Congress candidates for Jammu-Reasi and Kathua-Udhampur seats, and in return, Congress will not field its candidates against NC in the three Kashmir seats.
