Once Out, Consort to Thailand’s King Is Back In (and a Major General, Again)

BANGKOK — The king of Thailand appreciated her. Then he didn’t. Now, apparently, he likes her once more.

Sineenat Wongvajirapakdi rose to the place of royal consort to King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun, solely to be stripped of her official title final 12 months, amid accusations from the palace that she was making an attempt to upstage the queen.

On Wednesday, the Royal Thai Authorities Gazette introduced that Ms. Sineenat was again in possession of her noble titles. She had not been seen publicly since her dismissal almost a 12 months in the past, and her whereabouts had not been formally revealed.

The place of royal consort, referring to a feminine companion who will not be a spouse, had not existed in Thailand since absolute monarchy was abolished in 1932 till the present king revived it for Ms. Sineenat.

King Maha Vajiralongkorn has been married a number of instances. His first spouse was his cousin; his third was purged and members of her household had been jailed for disrespecting the monarchy.
