Only 4% of Indian companies are equipped to handle modern cyber attacks: Report

New Delhi, March 28 (IANS) Only 4 per cent of organisations in India have the “mature” level of readiness needed to be resilient against modern cybersecurity risks, as per Cisco’s ‘2024 Cybersecurity Readiness Index’. Despite this, 88 per cent of companies feel confident in their ability to defend against cyberattacks.

However, 82 per cent of respondents believe that a cybersecurity incident is likely to disrupt their business in the next 12 to 24 months. Jeetu Patel, EVP and General Manager of Security and Collaboration at Cisco, warned against overconfidence, stating that organisations need to invest in integrated platforms and AI to operate at machine scale.

Nearly all companies globally (99 per cent) plan to increase their cybersecurity budgets in the next 12 months, with 71 per cent intending to upgrade their IT infrastructure in the next 12 to 24 months. Samir Kumar Mishra, Director, Security Business, Cisco India & SAARC, emphasized the importance of integrating AI into frontline defenses to strengthen security resilience in a digital-first world.
