OpenAI Claims No Founding Agreement with Elon Musk

OpenAI Denies Founding Agreement with Elon Musk

San Francisco, March 12 (IANS) – OpenAI, led by Sam Altman, has refuted claims made by Elon Musk that the ChatGPT maker violated a founding contract with the billionaire. In a court filing, OpenAI stated that there is no agreement with Musk as alleged by him.

The court filing mentioned that Musk initially supported a for-profit structure for OpenAI but later dropped the project when his wishes were not followed. OpenAI argued that Musk’s claim of a “Founding Agreement” is a fiction created by him to lay unearned claim to the success of the company.

OpenAI responded to Musk’s lawsuit by revealing that during discussions about a for-profit structure, Musk wanted majority equity, initial board control, and to be the CEO. However, he withheld funding in the middle of these negotiations.

Musk had alleged in his lawsuit that OpenAI has become “a closed-source de facto subsidiary” of Microsoft. OpenAI has denied any founding agreement with Musk and clarified that there is no arrangement with him, as stated in the court filing.

In a blog post, OpenAI claimed that Musk supported a for-profit structure initially but later wanted full control or a merger with Tesla. The company stated that Musk now desires the success achieved by OpenAI for himself.

It is clear from OpenAI’s response that they are vehemently denying any founding agreement with Elon Musk and asserting that the claims made by the billionaire are baseless. The ongoing legal battle between Musk and OpenAI sheds light on the complexities surrounding the collaboration between tech giants and AI companies.
