'Oppenheimer', 'The Bear' continue winning run; Scorsese recalls Hitchcock's advice

Los Angeles, Feb 26 (IANS) ‘Oppenheimer’ snagged the top prize at the 2024 Producers Guild of America Awards, solidifying its Oscar chances. Christopher Nolan’s producing skills were highlighted, while ‘The Bear’ and producer Gail Berman were also celebrated at the event.

Christopher Nolan, Emma Thomas, Chuck Roven and their team won the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for ‘Oppenheimer’, recognizing excellence in producing. Thomas praised Nolan’s prowess as a producer, emphasizing their successful partnership on 12 films.

‘The Bear’ won the Danny Thomas Award for best episodic comedy series at the ceremony, adding to its recent wins at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. Super-producer Gail Berman was honored with a career achievement award named after Norman Lear, with Sarah Michelle Gellar presenting the trophy.

Berman shared her journey to success, recalling the challenges she faced with ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ and how she persevered to create an iconic character empowering young women worldwide. She dedicated her award to her family, who provide unwavering support.

Mexican filmmaker Guillermo del Toro paid tribute to Martin Scorsese, recipient of the David O. Selznick Achievement Award. Del Toro praised Scorsese’s enduring spirit as an artist and highlighted the transformative phase in his illustrious career. Scorsese received a standing ovation from the audience.

Scorsese, in his acceptance speech, recalled advice from director Alfred Hitchcock about managing productions efficiently. Hitchcock emphasized the importance of staying within budget and time constraints, and urged filmmakers to prioritize faithfulness. The event concluded with a sense of celebration and recognition of excellence in film production.
