Oregon Father Michael Meyden Charged with Drugging Daughter’s Friends During Sleepover with Benzodiazepine-Laced Smoothies
Michael Meyden is a 57-year-old father from Oregon who has faced multiple charges. The charges include giving drugs containing Benzodiazepines to his daughter’s friends at his home in Lake Oswego, during a sleepover.
One of the girls texted her mother desperately and requested to be picked up soon as possible.
The girl wrote,
“Mom please pick me up and say I had a family emergency. I don’t feel safe. I might not respond but please come get me (crying emoji), Please. Please pick it up. Please. PLEASE!!”
The Sleepover
When the 12-year-old daughter of Michael Meyden invited her friends for a sleepover in August 2023, reportedly this incident occurred. KLTV reported, as per citations in the court documents, that on August 26, 2023, the drugging of the girls allegedly began.
The news gained the limelight when the Lake Oswego police arrived at the Randall Children’s Hospital emergency room.
Three of the kids who were part of the sleepover tested positive for Benzodiazepine.
The Drug Enforcement Administration states that Benzodiazepines, also known as downers or benzos, are ‘depressants.’ This drug is used to treat panic attacks and insomnia. However, it can also potentially slow down the body’s nervous system, causing disturbing dreams, irritability, hostility, amnesia, and sleepiness.
Who is Michael Meyden?
The father, Michael Meyden, is the prime suspect accused of serving four of his daughter’s friends mango smoothies laced with Benzodiazepines.
According to a now-deleted LinkedIn profile reported by ScallyWag And Vagabond, Michael Meyden graduated from Arizona State University. He holds citizenship in both Canada and the USA. The Oregonian reported that Meyden’s wife filed for divorce from him in 2023.
Reportedly, the children did facials and watched movies before being offered mango smoothies, which had “tiny white chunks throughout and sprinkled on top.”
They were encouraged to drink the smoothies.
When one of the girls refused to drink her smoothie, Michael Meyden prepared a fresh one and insisted that the victim drink it. One of the girls told the police that she couldn’t sleep out of fear that Mr. Meyden might harm them.
When one of the parents received the text, other parents were also alerted to pick up their children. However, when they arrived at Meyden’s doorstep, he was reluctant to let them take their daughters home, claiming the kids were sleeping. Nonetheless, the parents took their children straight to the hospital, where all three were found to have Benzodiazepine in their systems.
On February 28, 2024, Michael Meyden surrendered to the police and admitted to the charges against him of administering a controlled substance to minors, as reported by UNILAD.
