Osama bin Laden’s “Letter to America” gained popularity and became popular on TikTok. Moreover, it gained the young mass’s sympathy. Thus, the article has been taken down by the Guardian from its website. The Guardian’s explanations state that, the website page previously showcased a full text of the letter in English translation. It was reported in the Observer on November 24, 2002. The document was removed from the Guardian’s website on November 15, 2023.

Osama bin Laden’s “Letter to America” Goes Viral, What It Says

A 2-decade-old 4000-word long letter titled “Letter to America” by Osama bin has gained traction and has gone viral on various social media platforms like Reddit, TikTok, and Twitter.

As per The Guardian, the primary reason behind removing the letter written by Osama bin Laden was that it was spreading like fire on social media, without the full context. The Guardian removed it and expects from the people that they should check the original news article that explains everything properly.

The letter was written a year after the heinous terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. The attack took the lives of 3,000 people in the U.S. In the Letter To America, Osama Bin Laden sought to answer a few questions by addressing the American people. The questions include, “What are we calling you to, and what do we want from you?,” and “Why are we fighting and opposing you?.”

Osama Bin’s letter also included homophobic rhetoric and antisemitic language. The letter raised accusations of America for aiding the oppression of Palestinian people and supporting the ill motive of Israel. Bin Laden in his letter went against the interventions of the U.S. in Lebanon, Chechnya, Kashmir, Somalia, Iraq, and Afghanistan.

Reactions of Netizens

Numerous TikTok users who are young showed their sympathy for the words of Osama bin Laden in the letter. They encouraged other people to read it by recording videos and expressing support.

A Twitter user wrote, “This morning, I read Osama bin Laden’s “Letter to America,” where he explains why he attacked Americans. I’m ashamed to admit I didn’t know about this letter before. It’s quite eye-opening, and I recommend everyone read it. But, I must say, it left me feeling disillusioned.”

In another video, a user from TikTok shared his words after he was finished writing the letter. He mentioned how the letter changed his perspectives towards life and his country. Moreover, he urged other people to read it and work to challenge the existential crisis the majority of the masses are facing.
