Pakistan’s Foreign Office supports Foreign Minister’s suggestion to resume trade with India

Official Voices From Pakistan on Resuming Trade with India

In a quick succession, official voices from Pakistan have emerged on the resumption of trade with India. Pakistan Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and the Pakistan Foreign Office have both talked about a proposal for resuming trade with India.

Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch confirmed the news, stating, “We are reviewing a proposal for resumption of trade with India.” She mentioned that examining such proposals is a regular exercise in the government of Pakistan.

She further added, “We continue to consider all such requests and assess our policy.” However, she clarified that there has been no change in Pakistan’s position on the issue so far.

On March 24, Dar mentioned that relevant stakeholders would “seriously examine” the trade situation with India as he highlighted the concerns of the business community. In December last year, former Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif had also emphasized the need to improve relationships with neighboring countries, including India.

Dar emphasized that the business community often makes appeals and demands concerning the trade situation with India. The discussions on the proposal for resuming trade with India continue within the government of Pakistan, as stated by the Foreign Office spokesperson.

The developments indicate a growing interest in resuming trade activities between Pakistan and India. With official statements from top officials, it remains to be seen how the situation evolves in the coming days.
