Palestinian killed during Israeli raid on West Bank refugee camp

Jenin, Feb 22 (IANS) – One Palestinian was killed and two others were wounded during an Israeli military raid on the Jenin refugee camp in the West Bank, Palestinian sources said. The Palestinian Red Crescent Society transported two injured people and the body of a young Palestinian to the hospital. Israel’s special forces stormed the camp and raided a house in the Al-Samran neighbourhood before they had armed clashes with Palestinian gunmen. The Israeli forces sent reinforcements to the city of Jenin and the camp that include dozens of military vehicles and bulldozers and surrounded several homes to arrest “wanted persons,” according to the sources.

The sources added Israeli airstrikes hit at least two missile sites in the Jenin camp and explosions were heard in the city. According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, the number of Palestinians killed by Israeli forces in the West Bank has risen to 399 since the outbreak of Israel-Hamas conflict on October 7, 2023.

The raid in the Jenin refugee camp has once again intensified the tensions between Israel and Palestine. The Israeli forces conducted a military operation, leading to the loss of one Palestinian life as well as injuries to two others. The clashes between the Israeli special forces and Palestinian gunmen have further escalated the situation in the region.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society played a crucial role in providing medical assistance to the injured and transporting them to the hospital. The Israeli airstrikes in the Jenin camp and the surrounding area have caused further destruction and added to the already volatile situation in the West Bank. The increasing number of Palestinian casualties has raised concerns about the escalating violence in the region.

As the conflict between Israel and Palestine continues, it is imperative for both parties to engage in meaningful dialogue and work towards a peaceful resolution. The international community also needs to play a proactive role in de-escalating the situation and facilitating dialogue between the two sides. The loss of lives and the destruction caused by the ongoing conflict underscore the urgent need for a lasting and peaceful solution in the region.
